Gold Award Residential Project: 5 days
Looking for a Duke of Edinburgh's Award Gold Residential Project that's fun as well as helping protect a valuable environmental asset? The Steps Barrington offers a Residential Project unlike any other: 5 days alongside the beautiful Barrington River that includes a riparian restoration project.
You'll help identify weed species, assist with weed removal, erosion prevention and riverbank stabilisation with tree planting.
In between there's plenty of fun to be had, you'll be playing on the Barrington River, hiking through rainforest and taking a mountain bike for a spin on the purpose-built riverside trails. At the end of each day, take a quick dip in the rapids at The Steps or relax by the fire. Evening entertainment includes eco spotlighting, star gazing and campfire games. Awesome!
"I had an amazing experience and learnt so much from the camp leaders and all my camp mates. The experience was very worthwhile and I hope that I would be able to come back sometime in the future to see how all the work we did made a positive impact on the environment. I would recommend this project to anyone completing their Gold Award as I had such an amazing time and formed some valuable friendships that I have continued outside the program. Thank you again for such an amazing experience" (CS - Brigidine College - September 2020)
"The residential project gave me an opportunity to be myself without fear of being judged... The project made me realise that I love meeting new people, listening to their experiences, funny stories and interests...The project made me become more self-aware and therefore gain self-confidence. By realising that my strengths were meeting new people, my sense of humour, being respectful to camp leaders and being helpful and contributing to the team; it helped me gain confidence.
